Tronox Announces $120/MT Zircon Sand Hike for Q4; Rising India-Pakistan Sea Freight Reshapes South Asian Zircon Market
2026-09-09
Tronox has announced a USD 120 per tonne increase for zircon sand in Q4. Meanwhile, sea freight rates to India and Pakistan are set to rise over the next two months, pushing landed costs higher for South Asian zircon importers.
Coastal placer deposits are generally rich in ilmenite, zircon, rutile and monazite. A combined process of gravity pre‑concentration, magnetic separation and electrostatic purification is mainly adopted.
2026-09-03
Coastal sand (also referred to as coastal placer ore) is normally abundant in high‑value minerals including ilmenite, zircon, rutile and rare‑earth‑bearing monazite. Subject to long‑term natural weathering, most minerals achieve favourable liberation. For this reason, complex crushing and grinding are not required for separation. Instead, the combined process of gravity pre‑concentration ➔ magnetic separation ➔ electrostatic purification is predominantly applied.
Zircon Sand: From Traditional Industrial Material to New Energy Core Substrate
2026-08-25
As the core upstream mineral of the entire zirconium industrial chain, zircon sand relies on its excellent physical stability, high temperature resistance and modification adaptability. It has completed a value leap from traditional industrial auxiliary materials to four strategic tracks: new energy, high-end electronics, biomedicine and clean energy, becoming a key basic mineral resource supporting the domestic substitution of high-end manufacturing.

Zircon sand is the core natural upstream raw material for zirconia production. It is found in coastal placer deposits and features stable chemical properties, excellent high-temperature resistance and acid & alkali corrosion resistance.
Zircon Sand Prices Continue to Climb with No Signs of Abating
2026-08-07
Since the post-Lunar New Year period of 2026, China’s domestic market for 65% premium zircon sand has traced a near-unbroken unilateral upward trajectory: • February: ¥10,400/ton • March: ¥10,800/ton • April: ¥11,200/ton • May: ¥11,600/ton • June: ¥12,000/ton • July: ¥12,200/ton (Northern Metals Network reported a range of ¥12,100–12,300/ton on July 2, averaging ¥12,200/ton) Over six months, cumulative gains have reached approximately 17.3%.
Zircon Sand: Navigating Tight Supply & Shifting Global Market Landscape in 2026
2026-07-29
Zircon sand remains an irreplaceable industrial mineral, serving as the core raw material for ceramic opacifiers, precision casting, refractory materials, zirconium chemicals and advanced new materials. As we progress through 2026, the global zircon market is undergoing profound structural shifts defined by constrained supply, volatile logistics and diverging demand patterns across continents.
